The End of Fitness! What people really want is movement!

The problem with fitness today

FITNESS IS BROKEN!

I'm not telling you anything new here, you can already see it on all the social networks, fitness is completely broken.

The stupidity of some CrossFit practitioners...

It's a race to feed your ego , count the number of likes and followers, sell chemical food supplements, clothes and weight loss programs.

It's the idolization of six-packs, huge pecs and big biceps for men and a tiny waist with a huge butt for women.

We only talk about the number of kilos lifted, the number of repetitions, the number of sets, the number of calories to consume, numbers, numbers, numbers to continue selling, selling, selling.

This is the logical result of a mass consumer society , which constantly seeks instant gratification , immediate success, the quickest response.

A society of carbon copies where no one is original, nor brings real added value to the community.

All physiques are the same, all programs are the same, all these fitboys and fitgirls offer the same salad and all people are in the same pain, the same lack, the same feeling of emptiness.

Indeed, those who lose the most are everyday people whose brains are being washed, already weakened by omnipresent advertising, long hours sitting at the office, the famous metro-work-sleep routine, by being told a biased model of physical fitness and health, an ideal size, an ideal weight to be supposedly “in good health”.

This is a way of thinking that leads absolutely nowhere, that creates a society of people who are even more dependent , infantilized, without any mental strength, completely alienated, docile consumers, who consume as many protein shakes as antidepressants.

The evolution of society towards an awakening of consciousness

The picture is not completely bleak, I assure you.

In recent years we have been witnessing a real awakening of consciences .

This involves the democratization of practices such as yoga, functional training, MMA, but also through an awareness of food, thanks to an increasing number of documentaries which denounce this mass production and consumption.

We are seeing more and more organic products on supermarket shelves, an increase in the number of vegetarians and vegans...

Here too, we must not be naive; there is much to be said about the scam behind these new products and food trends and how the capitalist machine also turns this to its advantage, but that will be the subject of another article. Let's try to see the good side of this for now.

Growth in the market share of Yoga/Pilates studios in the United States in 10 years

As far as we are concerned, these are signs that show an interest among a growing part of the population, for a diet and a physical practice closer to Nature , closer to what the human body is supposed to do, more in accordance with the notions of well-being, of feeling good, of living well and of moving well.

Given the damage that Fitness causes to young people and adults, in terms of self-confidence, self-esteem, relationship to the body, to sexuality, to others and even confidence in Humanity,

It is high time to change our mindset regarding our relationship with our body in order to feel better about ourselves and, in fact, be better able to serve the community and live better together .

The new disciplines of the Movement

To respond to this renewal of awareness, we see approaches that are gaining more and more popularity such as Calisthenics, Tricking, Bodyweight Gymnastics, Breakdancing, Capoeira, Parkour, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, even Yoga...

practices based on body control, a better relationship with one's body, listening to the sensations of one's body and whose most important attribute is movement .

Far from vanity metrics, exercises like bench presses, squats, bicep curls and protein shakes, here we are looking for improving the quality of our movements, constantly learning new skills, gaining overall mastery of our physicality .

We no longer talk about exercise but about training, we no longer seek aesthetics but we adopt a generalist approach, in play, in curiosity, in discovery...

The goal is to progress, not through numbers, but rather through what we are capable of doing.

We are constantly developing new motor controls, we are developing a sense of accomplishment, we are gaining self-esteem and self-confidence, we are part of several international communities, we are truly discovering who we are, we are surpassing ourselves.

We reconnect with our primal, natural side.

We move like humans again.

A new paradigm: movement

Thanks to these new disciplines which are gaining more and more members every day, we are witnessing a real paradigm shift .

Indeed, people want to move more freely, to live in a body without pain, without any restrictions, to be able to do what they want with their body.

Roye Gold, student of the Ido Portal method, movement expert.

We therefore redefine “fitness” by the ability to move, to express one’s physicality, to develop a body capable of doing everything .

That's the movement.

This approach is the only one that will allow people to become competent in the language of their body, to rediscover the body they had as children, a body capable of doing anything, without fear, without hesitation, a body they can truly rely on.

It is the victory of the long term over the short term, the pleasure of spending a lifetime exploring one's physicality , an approach in which one wishes to move, play, have fun, share and no longer constantly compete and nourish the "me me".

We seek inner peace and self-control.

New playgrounds for adults

There are more and more gyms around the world that are moving towards this vision of holistic physical training .

Completely uncluttered spaces, without any weight machines, simply with a large flat space, parquet or tatami, on which to roll, crawl, flow, with hanging bars and rings to hang on, grab, move and most often simple tools like tennis balls, wooden sticks to work while playing.

Everything else is superfluous.

These are spaces designed to allow free rein for exploration, reflection and play. Real playgrounds for adults .

The final word from your movement coach

To conclude, I would say that the movement is only the logical response to a drift of the modern world which wanted to quantify everything, measure everything in order to sell everything and also enslave our bodies to excessive and sterile consumption...

The human body is designed to move intuitively , simply, spontaneously.

Movement is the discipline that places the human body, heart and spirit at the heart of its practice.
